PRINCETON, NJ - Lisa Rasmussen (So., Washington, D.C) scored twice and added an assist as the Princeton women's hockey team came out of the exam break to pick up a 4-1 win over Yale in ECAC North action on Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
The win improves the Tigers to 11-6-2 and 7-3-0 in the league. Princeton has now won four of its last five outings and is in a three-way tie with Dartmouth and St. Lawrence at the top of the conference standings.
"Our guys stayed focused during the exam break," said head coach Jeff Kampersal. "They really buckled down with their studies but they kept active. I really admire their heart and toughness. They have been in some adverse situations this year and this was one of those times when they really rose to the occasion." Rasmussen opened the scoring just four minutes into the game when she collected her own rebound just outside the crease and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Wanda Mason (Sr., Lewiston, ME) and goalie Megan Van Beusekom (So., Loretto, MN) assisted on the goal.
Melissa Deland (Sr., Washington, DC) added to that lead when she registered her ninth goal of the season at 13:45 of the first period off of assists from Rasmussen and April Brown (Fr., Savage, MN).
Gretchen Anderson (So., Natick, MA) scored the Tigers' third goal of the period at 15:06 as Princeton outshot the Bulldogs 11-3 in the opening period.
Wallis Finger (So., New Rochelle, NY) put Yale on the board at 14:13 of the second period with an assist from Erin Duggan (Fr., Beaumont, ALB). Finger had two breakaway opportunities in the game and was denied by Van Beusekom on both occasions.
Rasmussen capped off the scoring with her second goal of the game, and eighth of the season at 1:09 of the final period. Aviva Grumet-Morris (Sr., Evanston, IL) and Angela Gooldy (So., New Hartford, NY) set up the power play goal to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead
Van Beusekom finished the day with 17 saves and improves to 7-3-0 with the win. Hirte recorded 27 saves in the loss.
