Box Score
Lauren Rigney's runner with 11 minutes to play pulled Princeton within one point of the Crimson, but that was as close as the Tigers would get on Saturday night in Cambridge, Mass., losing to Harvard, 78-70.
Princeton started the game with its first five field goals being three-pointers. At the 10:03 mark of the first half, Harvard led 19-15 with all 15 Princeton points coming from downtown. The Tigers ended the half trailing 41-37 and making 7 of 17 from three-point range and 5 of 10 from inside the arc.
The Tigers cut the Crimson lead to one several times in the second half, but a jumper by Harvard's Hana Peljto put Harvard up by double figures once again with 5:47 to play in the game. A three-pointer by Rigney tightened their deficit to 71-66 with just over one minute to play, but the Crimson proved too strong as Harvard cruised to its 16th victory of the year.
Allison Cahill connected on six three-pointers and finished with a team-high 20 points. Rigney scored 19 as the Massachusetts combo combined for 55 percent of Princeton's points in their homecoming. Harvard's Reda Cserny led all scorers with 26 points, Peljto finished with 22.
The Tigers move to 8-14 overall and 2-7 in the Ivy League. Harvard tightens its grip on first place with an 8-1 conference mark and a 16-5 overall record. Princeton travels to Yale next Friday, Feb. 22 for a 7 p.m. game with the Bulldogs.
