PRINCETON, N.J. - Lauren Grumet had a match-high 19 kills while Alex Brown had 11 kills and a .550 attack percentage as the Princeton women's volleyball team gained its first win in the Ivy League with a 3-1 victory over Brown. The Tigers improved to 8-5 on the season, while Brown fell to 1-9.
Unlike its first Ivy League match, a 3-1 loss last weekend to Penn, the Princeton offense was balanced in its hitting. Grumet had 19 kills to lead the team, but three other Tigers had at least 10 kills. Senior Kellie Cramm and junior Ashley Weber had 12 apiece, while Brown had 11.
Sophomore Jenny Senske carried the offense with 45 assists, while freshman Jenny McReynolds led the defense with 18 digs. Cramm was among Princeton's best two-way players of the match, adding 16 digs to her 12 kills.
The Tigers jumped out early in the match and gained a 30-25 win in the first game. Poor hitting by the Bears doomed them in the second game, putting Brown in an 0-2 hole. The Tigers had a late lead in the third game, but Brown made a late rally, thanks to the strong hitting of Lauren Gibbs, and pulled off a 30-28 win in the third game. The Tigers wouldn't allow Brown to get any closer, pulling away midway through the fourth game to claim the match with a 30-23 win.
Gibbs had 13 kills for Brown, while Leigh Martin had 51 assists.
Princeton will take on Yale Saturday at 4 p.m.
