Cedar Falls, Iowa - The Princeton men's cross country team placed 14th of 35 teams in the purple race of the 2003 NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational at Northern Iowa University. The Tigers average time over the 8000 M course was 24:42. Stanford won the purple race, followed by Iona, Michigan, Air Force and Villanova. Finishing positions in this race and the gold race will be used to set seeds and bids for the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championship.
Princeton's top inidvidual finisher was Tristan Colangelo. He finished 25th overall in a time of 24:02.5. The race was won by Brigham Young's Kipi Kangogo in 23:09.8. Austin Smith was Princeton's next finisher in 56th overall. He covered the course in 24:29.5. Ben Stern (24:46.3, 88th), Frank Macreery (25:01.2, 114th), Jon Kieliszak (25:03.8, 119th), Peter Cioni (25:07.2, 123rd) and Adam Ludwig (25:55.3, 193rd) rounded out the Tigers in the field.
Princeton returns to action in two weekend at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in Van Cortland Park, N.Y., on Halloween.
