Cedar Falls, Iowa - The Princeton women's cross country team placed its top two runners in the Top 11 to earn a sixth-place finish in the purple race at the 2003 NCAA Pre-National at Northen Iowa University. The Tigers' seven runners averaged 21:09 over the 6K course and were 25 seconds off the average of first-place Brigham Young. Finishing positions in this race and the gold race will be used to set seeds and bids for the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championship.
The race was won by Brigham Young. Behind BYU; North Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan and Northern Arizona rounded out the top five.
Princeton's top inidividual finisher was Cack Ferrell in sixth. She completed the course in 20:23.2. The race was won by North Carolina's Shalane Flanagan in a time of 19:29.5. Emily Kroshus was the next Tiger in the final rundown, as she clocked in at 20:40.3 in 11th.
Carrie Strickland was the third Tiger finisher in 39th place with a time of 21:17.4. Laura Petrillo (53rd, 21:32.4), Marian Bihrle (70th, 21:46.7), Mia Swenson (73rd, 21:49.5) and Becca Snyder (98th, 22:04.2) were the rest of the Tigers running in the event.
Princeton returns to action on Halloween Day at the Ivy League Heptagonal Games in Van Cortland Park, N.Y.
