Tiger Track Teams Finish Busy But Productive Weekend at Penn State Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Princeton University men's and women's track teams were in University Park, Pa., for the Penn State National Open meet. The Tigers came away with a handful of good performances, including a win in the men's 3000 meters and a second-place finish in the men's 4x800-meter relay.
Senior Michael Baird (Lancaster, Pa.) won the men's 3000 meters in a provisional qualifying time of 8:02.37. That time is good enough to rank him fourth in the nation among NCAA qualifiers. The 4x800-meter relay team made up of David Dean (Sr., Pegram, Texas), Rob Hulick (Jr., Hinsdale, Ill.), Josh Kuake (Jr., Ridgewood, N.J.) and Alexis Tingan (So., Beaumont, Texas) was second this weekend with a mark of 7:35.66. Sophomore Brooke Minor (Swedesboro, N.J.) tied for third in the high jump by clearing a height of 5-6. She was joined in the Top 15 by teammate Alison Brawner with a mark of 5-2.25, ranking her in a tie for 13th place. Cameron Atkinson (Sr., Mantua, N.J.) was fourth in the finals of the 60 meters with a time of 6.89 seconds. He missed an NCAA provisional time by .17 seconds. In the 60-meter hurdles Adrian Mullings missed a provisional time by .03 seconds with a third-place time of 7.98. He finished second among collegiate competitors. In the mile, Senior Jonathan Bell (Raleigh, N.C.) finished second with a time of 4:07.43. Junior Jonathan Kieliszak (Warwick, R.I.) turned in a 4:10.14 performance, which placed him sixth in the meet. Josh McCaughey (Jr., West Kingston, R.I.) rounded out the top finishers for the men's team with a 64-7 mark in the weight throw. He finished second and achieved provisional qualifying status.
In other top action for the women's team, the all-freshman distance medley relay team of Meredith Lambert, Laura Landry, Jordan Wagenseller and Cack Ferrell finished eighth with a time 11:55.56, a mere .33 second behind seventh-place Virginia. Sophomore Chanel Lattimer (Severn, Md.) rounded out a busy day with Top 45 finishes in the 60 meters (8.00 seconds, 37th place), the 200 meters (26.04, 41st place) and the 400 meters (59.74, 43rd place). In the mile, Pilar Marin (Jr., Melville, N.Y.) was eighth with a time of 4:59.91.
Both teams return to action next week. The men's team returns to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions and UConn in a scored meet while the women's team hosts Penn State and Penn.
