The Cornell indoor track and field teams swept the 2003 Indoor Heptagonal titles, including a stunning upset of the five-time defending champion Princeton men's team, this weekend at Hanover, N.H.
In one of the most exciting finishes in Heptagonal Games history, the Cornell men, needing to stay two places ahead of Princeton in the final race of the day in order to secure its first Heps title since 1978, saw sophomore Brian Eremita forge ahead on the anchor leg of the 4X400 relay to push the Big Red and snap Princeton's string of five straight titles.
Among the men's winners for Princeton were Jonathan Bell (3000m, 8:16.41) and the 4x800 team (Zysik, Dean, Kieliszak, Kauke, 7:35.30).
Meredith Lambert and Laura Petrillo were winners for the women in the unseeded finals of the 3000m (17:23.77) and 5000m (19:54.03), respectively.
