PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton heavyweight crew first varsity topped Penn by more than four seconds and Columbia by nearly 23 seconds to retain possession of the Childs Cup this morning at its home course at Lake Carnegie. It was the highlight of a perfect competition for the Tigers, who swept all four races for the second straight weekend.
Princeton opened the competition with a win in the second freshman four, and then earned a comfortable win in the freshman eights. The Princeton second varsity boat was challenged only by its own third varsity boat, and both finished well ahead of both of its Ivy challengers.
The Childs Cup stayed with Princeton after the fourth race, as Princeton completed the 2000-meter race in 6:13.8, topping Penn (6:18.01) and Columbia (6:36.7).
Princeton stays at Lake Carnegie next weekend to take on Harvard and MIT. The first varsity race is currently scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., although the entire competition begins at 9 a.m.
