Tigers Dominate Field Events At Broadmeade Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - Josh McCaughey, Mark Smith, Paul Lyons and Rocky Craley all met NCAA qualifying marks in the field at the 2003 Broadmeade Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Weaver Stadium. The Tigers dominated in the throws and jumps, winning all seven field events with strong performances from NCAA qualifiers in the throws.
Lyons and Craley both earned NCAA qualifying marks in the shot put. Lyons won the event with a put of 17.77, while Craley placed second with a mark of 17.42. Lyons also won the discus throw (50.06) for Princeton.
In the hammer throw competition, McCaughey and Smith each met NCAA standards with McCaughey tossing a 61.26 and Smith tossing a 57.56 as the Princeton duo placed 1-2. Tim Releford took the javelin competition with a distance of 59.73 and Matt Stack placed second with a mark of 55.49.
The Tigers also faired well in the jumps with Mike Weishuhn winning the high jump, Marcus Ford-Bey winning the triple jump and Duane Davis winning the long jump. David Gary finished second in the triple jump.
On the track it was a 1-2 Princeton finish in the 110 high hurdles and a clean Tiger sweep in the 1,500-meter race. Adrian Mullings won the 110 hurdles while Wayne Hopp took the 1,500 in 3:59.70. Gray Reinhard finished second with a time of 4:00.20.
The Tigers now head to New Haven, Conn. for the Heptagonal Championships this weekend. Both the men and women compete this Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4.
