Princeton junior Cack Ferrell ran the Princeton Battlefield 5K course in a course-record 17:12 and five other Tiger runners finished in the top eight overall as Princeton dominated Harvard and Yale to win the 29th Annual H/Y/P Women's Cross Country meet Saturday morning.
Ferrell broke the three-year-old course record (17:19) set by Yale's Kate O'Neill to put an exclamation point on what was likely the final cross country race at the Battlefield course. Princeton began running meets there in 1992, but the New Jersey State Department of Parks and Recreation will no longer allow the Tigers to use the park for competitions.
Princeton won the tri-meet with 23 points, with Yale finishing second (54 points) and Harvard third (57 points). The Tigers defeated both Harvard and Yale 19-42 in dual-meet scoring, while Yale edged Harvard 27-30 in their dual meet. The Tigers took spots four through eight in the event behind Ferrell, who also became the fastest Princetonian at the Battlefield course by breaking Emily Kroshus' record of 17:20 set last year. Meredith Lambert was fourth in 17:31, while Mia Swenson finished fifth in 17:50. Marian Bihrle, Catha Mullen and Claire Filloux rounded out the top eight, all finishing the course below the 18:13 mark.
Harvard freshman Lindsey Scherf was second overall, 11 seconds behind Ferrell in 17:23. Yale's Cara Kiernan finished third in 17:25.
Yale's Ashley Campbell (18:15) and Harvard's Laura Maludzinski (18:16) rounded out the individual top 10 in the event. Five other Princeton runners finished among the top 18 competitors.
Princeton has now won the H/Y/P meet nine times, as has Harvard. Yale has 10 victories overall since the varsity race began in 1977.
