Hillary Schmidt, whose goal with 1:20 remaining this past Saturday gave Princeton a 2-1 victory against Harvard, has been named the Ivy League Field Hockey Player of the Week for games ending Oct. 24.
Schmidt's goal, her fourth of the season, came on a rebound opportunity and completed a Tiger comeback that seemed improbable only a few minutes before. Princeton trailed 1-0 with less than five minutes left, but tied the game with three minutes remaining and then won it on Schmidt's goal.
Schmidt, a junior from Westtown, Pa., also had an assist on the first goal, sending a pass to the top of the circle on a penalty-corner situation.
Princeton (6-8, 5-1 Ivy) can win the Ivy League title and earn the league's automatic NCAA tournament berth by defeating Penn Nov. 5. The Tigers play two non-conference games this weekend, traveling to William & Mary on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday.
Schmidt is the second member of her family to be honored by the Ivy League this year. Her younger sister, Paige, also a member of the Tigers, has been named the league's Rookie of the Week twice.
