Hamilton, N.Y. - Esmeralda Negron just missed her 15th goal of the season. Franny Iacuzzi didn't.
Iacuzzi's goal with 2:57 remaining in the first overtime gave Colgate a 1-0 win over eight-ranked Princeton in women's soccer Sunday afternoon.
The game matched the Ivy League champion Tigers and the Patriot League regular season champion Raiders. The loss snapped Princeton's 10-game winning streak.
"It's disappointing, but you have to give Colgate a lot of credit," said Princeton coach Julie Shackford. "They played very well. They had a good plan, and they stuck to it. We had some chances but couldn't break through. The good news is that we already won the league and we have the NCAA tournament bid." Princeton, playing its third game in five days, was coming off a 7-0 win over Cornell Friday night that clinched the Tigers' fourth Ivy title in five years.
Negron scored three goals against Cornell to give her 14 on the season, a Princeton record, and she had Princeton's best chance against the Raiders when she drilled a shot off the crossbar in the overtime.
Just a minute after Negron's shot, Carolyn Warhaftig sent a through ball to Kelly Kuss, who played a cross in front of the net. Kathleen Head retrieved in on the endline and dropped it for Iacuzzi, who finished the play and gave the Raiders their 11th win of the season.
For Iacuzzi, it was her 15th goal of the season, a Colgate freshman record.
Princeton outshot Colgate 23-15.
Colgate is 11-6-1 on the season heading into next weekend's Patriot League tournament, while Princeton fell to 14-2. The Tigers finish the regular season Saturday night when they host Pennsylvania in an attempt to finish with a perfect Ivy League record.
