Princeton Faces UCLA in NCAA Women's Soccer Final Four

UCLA, Notre Dame and Santa Clara - three of the teams in this weekend's NCAA women's soccer College Cup - have combined for 17 Final Four appearances prior to this season. The fourth team - Princeton - is where no Ivy League women's soccer team has gone before. The seventh-seeded Tigers will take on 14th-seeded UCLA Friday in the opening game of the semifinal doubleheader in Cary, N.C. (2, ESPN2), followed by fourth-seeded Notre Dame and 16th-seeded Santa Clara. The winners meet Sunday at 1 for the NCAA championship.

Old friends - Princeton coach Julie Shackford and UCLA coach Jillian Ellis first met in 1982, when Ellis came from Britain and joined Shackford's Northern Virginia club team, the Braddock Road Bluebelles, who won the 1984 national club championship.
From the same Tribe - Princeton coach Julie Shackford and UCLA coach Jillian Ellis attended college together at William & Mary, where both were All-Americas. Shackford and Ellis played in four NCAA tournaments together and are both members of the William & Mary athletic Hall of Fame.
