Cambridge, Mass. - The Princeton women's hockey team dropped its regular-season finale at Harvard Sunday afternoon 2-0 despite a 40-save performance from senior goaltender Megan Van Beusekom. With the loss and a win by Brown over Yale, the Tigers finish fifth in the ECAC standings and will visit Brown in next weekend's ECAC quarterfinals.
After a scoreless first period, Harvard jumped out to a 1-0 lead with what turned out to be the game-winning goal when Liza Solley scored from Katherine Sweet and Angela Ruggiero at 11:02 of the second period. Harvard then sat on that lead for the rest of the afternoon until Nicole Corriero added an empty-net insurance goal at 18:36 of the third period.
Harvard outshot the Tigers in each period, posting 42 shots on the Princeton net, as opposed to the 19 shots that they Tigers put on Harvard. Van Beusekom was the star of the game for Princeton as she made 40 saves, only letting one shot get past her all afternoon long.
The Tigers are now 20-9 on the season and can set a Princeton high for wins in a season with a victory next weekend.
Princeton split the season series with Brown, falling 3-1 in Princeton in January and winning 6-3 in Providence on Saturday afternoon.
