For the second straight year under head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn, the Princeton field hockey team has the honor of hosting the first official home athletic event of the season. And when the Tigers host Northeastern at Class of 1952 Stadium Friday evening (6 p.m.), they'll be doing so with a talented team that includes an eight-member senior class and all but two returning letterwinners from last season. The 2003 Tigers won the Ivy League championship for the 10th straight year, finished 12-6 overall and reached a fourth straight NCAA tournament. Two-time first-team All-America Natalie Martirosian headlines that Class of 2005, and it's also a class that includes last year's leading scorer (Lizzie Black), who had eight goals and 22 points. A strong junior class, the sophomore goalie tandem of 2003 Ivy Rookie of the Year Allison Nemeth and Juliana Simon and Holmes-Winn's first recruiting class will also make the Tigers tough to beat in 2004. Princeton will alternate home and away weekends through the first five weeks of the season. The Tigers begin Ivy League play, and put their 31-game winning streak in conference games on the line, at Yale next Saturday. The Tigers haven't played Northeastern since 2001, when Princeton defeated the Huskies twice--once in the regular season, and once in the NCAA tournament at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Huskies are 2-0 heading into Friday's game, having defeated Ball State and Ohio last weekend. The Tigers conclude their weekend Sunday afternoon (1 p.m.) against Delaware at Class of 1952 Stadium.
