NEW HAVEN, Conn. - This time, the Princeton field hockey team took advantage of its scoring opportunities. And the result was a big win in its Ivy League opener.
Lauren Ehrlichman scored three goals in the second half to lead the way and the Tigers also scored on three penalty-corner situations on the way to a 6-0 rout of Yale at Johnson Field Saturday afternoon.
Princeton (1-2), which scored only one goal in losses to Northeastern and Delaware last weekend, got back on track in a big way with its 32nd straight win in Ivy League play. The Tigers haven't lost an Ivy game since a 2-1 defeat at Brown in 1999.
Yale, which has never defeated Princeton in field hockey at home, fell to 1-2 on the season.
The Tigers dominated throughout, outshooting the Bulldogs 26-3 and forcing Yale goalie Kate Crandall to make 17 saves. Kelly Darling scored on a penalty corner situation with 15 minutes gone in the game to put Princeton on the board, and Lauren Quinn then scored an unassisted goal off another corner situation to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Hillary Schmidt and Ehrlichman then scored in a 1:09 period midway through the second half to make it 4-0. Ehrlichman's final goal with 10 minutes left provided the final 6-0 margin.
Princeton had 11 penalty corners to just one for Yale. Tiger goalie Juliana Simon was forced to make just one save for Princeton, which improved to 27-2-3 all-time against the Bulldogs.
The Tigers play at Connecticut Sunday afternoon.
