Field Hockey Falls at Second-Ranked Maryland

College Park, Md. - Sophomore Paige Schmidt scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but five second-half goals for second-ranked Maryland gave the Terps a 5-1 win over the Princeton field hockey team on Tuesday night. Senior Hillary Schmidt assisted on the goal.
Paige Schmidt's first-period goal was her team-leading fifth of the season and came in the game's 12th minute on a penalty corner. Princeton held onto the 1-0 lead through the first half despite being outshot 5-3 by Maryland.
After being held scoreless in the first period, the Terps began the second half fast with a goal two minutes in from Paul Infante. Twelve minutes later Jackie Ciconte scored on a deflection to give Maryland the lead. Ciconte, Infante and Sarah Scholl all added additional goals to make the final score 5-1. Maryland outshot Princeton 12-1 in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth made 12 saves in the game, while Maryland's Kathryn Masson made three. Maryland outshot Princeton 17-5 and had five corners to Princeton's three.
Princeton fell to 5-7 with the loss and resumes its Ivy schedule on Saturday at Brown.
