PRINCETON, N.J. - After coming from behind to take game one, 33-31 on Friday night at Dillon Gym, the Princeton women's volleyball team (12-5, 3-3 Ivy) maintained control of the match through the second and third games to sweep Brown (6-11, 3-3). Freshman Parker Henritze had a game-high 23 kills as the Orange and Black out-hit the Bears, .274 to .018.
Brown managed to stay ahead of Princeton for the first half of the opening game, save a tie at 9-9, opening up a lead as wide as 18-13. After a Princeton time out, the home team went on a 7-3 run to cut Brown's advantage to one. Still, the Bears maintained the lead until an ace serve by senior Lauren Grumet tied the game at 29-29. The teams traded points until Princeton capitalized on a Brown attack error to take a 32-31 lead and closed the game on a Henritze kill. For the game, Parker had a .467 attack percentage, recording nine kills as neither team took control of the opening frame on offense. Princeton hit .163 to .069 for Brown.
Game two started out as a landslide for the Orange and Black, which took a lead as large as 24-5. Brown went on an 11-4 run to narrow things a bit at 28-16, but the Tigers scored the last two points thanks to a Henritze kill and a Brown attack error to close out the 30-16 win. Princeton was able to take such a commanding lead with another strong stanza by Henritze, who had 10 kills on a .429 hitting clip. She paced the Tigers as the team hit .324 for the game while holding Brown to just four kills and a -.074 attack rate.
Princeton used a balanced effort in the third game, hitting .387 as a team and nixing Brown's eight kills with eight attack errors by the Bears. Despite the statistics, Brown stayed within eight points of Princeton through the first half of the game, getting as close as five at 15-10. But courtesy of two Kelli Grobe kills and two attack errors from Brown, the lead immediately expanded to 19-10 and grew from that point as Princeton scored 11 of the last 18 points in a 30-17 win to clinch the match. On the night, junior Jenny McReynolds had a game-high 22 digs. Princeton hosts Yale at Dillon Gym on Saturday at 4 p.m. to close the first half of the Ivy League schedule.
