Men's Heavyweights Head To Henley; Daily Updates To Begin Sunday

The Princeton men's heavyweights are heading to the prestigious Royal Henley Regatta to begin competition for the Ladies' Challenge Plate. The Henley is one of the ultimate crew competitions in the world, and as recently as 2003, there was a Princeton vs. Princeton championship race.
That showdown featured the Princeton men's heavyweight freshmen against the varsity lightweight eight, both of which earned Eastern titles. The heavyweight freshmen, many of whom will be part of this same 2006 crew, won that showdown to claim Princeton's seventh Henley championship ever.
The last finalist for the Princeton program was the 2004 women, which includes numerous members from this year's NCAA championship boat. The Tigers reached the final of the Remenham challenge.
The current Princeton squad, under the leadership of head coach Curtis Jordan, went undefeated this season and claimed both the 2006 Eastern Sprints championship and the 2005 Head of the Charles. It became the first Princeton crew to win at Harvard since 1957 and capped a brilliant season with a silver medal at the IRA national championships.
Daily updates will be made by Greg Hughes, who coached these rowers when they were part of the 2003 championship crew, and will begin Sunday. You can find them here.
