Women's Cross Country Wins H/Y/P Meet in Dominating Fashion
September 22, 2006 | Women's Cross Country
The Princeton women's cross country team may not have gotten the top finisher at the annual H/Y/P meet at Boston's Franklin Park Friday afternoon, but that didn't stop the Tigers from winning the meet in dominating fashion.
Tiger runners took spots two through eight at Friday's meet, led by an impressive second-place finish from senior Mia Swenson, on the way to an impressive victory against rivals Yale and Harvard. Princeton's winning score was 20, followed by Yale's 43 and host Harvard's 85.
Swenson, in a time of 17:31 over the 5K course, finished just five seconds behind race winner Lindsay Donaldson of Yale and began a string of seven straight Tiger finishers. A pair of freshmen, Christy Johnson and Liz Costello, finished in third and fourth in 17:46 and 17:49 respectively, while senior Catha Mullen was fifth in 17:56.
Two more freshmen, Reilly Kiernan (17:57) and Alexa Glencer (18:00) were the sixth- and seventh-place finishers, while junior Caitlin McTague rounded out the Tiger string with an eighth-place finish in 18:02.
Princeton won its second-straight meet to begin the 2006 season. The Tigers inaugurated their new home cross country course two weeks ago with a win at the Princeton Invitational over Iona, Villanova, Rutgers and Manhattan.
Complete results of Friday's H/Y/P meet will be posted on GoPrincetonTigers.com when they become available.
