Men's Cross Country Finishes Strong Seventh at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn.-Princeton sophomore Michael Maag led Princeton with an impressive 17th-place finish, and two of his teammates finished within the top 60 runners, as the Tigers placed a strong seventh out of 34 teams at the 2006 Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday morning.
The meet featured several of the top 20 programs in the country and nine schools that reached the NCAA championship field a year ago.
Maag completed the eight-kilometer course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in a time of 25:05.2, an average of 5:03 per mile. The Tigers had a team score of 259, just behind Butler's sixth-place mark of 233.
Brett Campfield had another strong performance Saturday after finishing as Princeton's top runner in their season-opening meet at home two weeks ago. Campfield ran a 5:09 pace and finished in 36th overall in a time of 25:34.90.
Frank Tinney was Princeton third finisher, taking 56th spot in a time of 25:41.40.
The Tigers' final two scorers finished nearly together in the race. Paul Rosa was 82nd overall in 26:05 and James O'Toole was 84th in 26:08.
Arizona placed two runners in the top five and four in the top 50 to win the race in a close contest with second-place and host Minnesota. Liberty's Josh McDougal pulled away in the final moments to win the individual race in a time of 24:14.05.
Virginia, Arizona State and Iowa State finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
