Pessala, Plummer Qualify for NCAA Regionals To Lead Tiger Men's Track at Sam Howell Invitational
April 07, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Strong performances in the field events, including NCAA regional qualifying marks from Alex Pessala and Eric Plummer, highlighted Princeton action at the 10th Annual Sam Howell Invitational on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Weaver Track & Field Stadium.
Pessala had the top collegiate mark in the hammer throw on Saturday, easily qualifying for NCAA regionals with a throw of nearly 61 meters (199' 4"). He was the only collegiate competitor to clear the 60-meter mark. Plummer was second in the shot put, but his toss of 55 feet, 8 1/4 inches was well clear of the regional qualifying standard.
Justin Frick just missed an NCAA qualifying mark in winning the high jump competition as the only competitor to clear 2.05 meters (6' 8 3/4"), while Nathan Crumpton was the only collegiate competitor to clear the 23-foot mark in the long jump with his jump of 23' 1 3/4" (7.04 meters), only behind former Tiger Dwaine Banton's leap of 23' 7 1/2".
In the discus, freshman Joel Karacozoff was fourth in the competition with a toss of 153 feet, five inches.
On the track, Ian Thomson had a strong race in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing third out of 20 runners in the competition in a time of 56.39 seconds. Kurt Kuehne was fifth out of nearly 60 total competitors in the 800 meters, completing the two laps in a time of 1:54.89.
