McGarvie and Reinprecht Each Score Two in 7-1 Win Over Brown
October 18, 2008 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON -- Senior Holly McGarvie and freshman Katie Reinprecht scored two goals apiece as the 12th-ranked Princeton field hockey team defeated Brown 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium. The win was Princeton's 10th of the season and moved the Tigers to 4-0 in league play.
Reinprecht put Princeton ahead with her first goal of the game and ninth goal of the season when she carried the ball in from the left side and scored in eighth minute. Brown held off Princeton following the goal, but Princeton eventually began to pad its lead when McGarvie scored twice later in the opening half to put the game out of reach.
McGarvie's first goal came in the 23rd minute on penalty corner as senior Kraftin Schreyer fed her the ball following the insert. Four minutes later, McGarvie added her 10th goal of the season to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Reinprecht added the final goal of the half, her 10th of the year, after freshman Kathleen Sharkey fed her a pass from the end line.
Princeton would score three more times in the second half to score seven times in the game. Sharkey netted her eighth goal of the season on the rebound of a blocked shot 1:12 into the second half. Brown's Victoria Sacco scored the game's next goal, but seniors Candice Arner and Leah Hoagland added goals in the final 10 minutes in the 7-1 win.
Princeton junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray earned the win by making one save in the first half. Sophomore Jennifer King stopped three shots in the second half. Lauren Kessler made 18 saves and Caroline Washburn stopped five for Brown.
Princeton outshot Brown 49-5 and had 13 corners to Brown's two.
The Tigers improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League with Saturday's win. Princeton remains tied with Cornell atop the league standings as the Big Red defeated Harvard on Saturday as well.
Princeton returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when it hosts Villanova at Class of '52 Stadium.
