Schreyer and Sharkey Lead Princeton to 5-0 Win
October 25, 2008 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON -- Senior Kraftin Schreyer and freshman Kathleen Sharkey each scored twice as the 12th-ranked Princeton field hockey team shut out Harvard 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
The Tigers jumped out to an early two minutes into the game when Schreyer converted on a direct corner with assists from senior Candice Arner and junior Kaitlyn Perrelle. Schreyer's shot to the right of the cage bounced in off the stick of a Harvard defender.
The same trio connected late in the half to make the score 2-0. Schreyer once again scored on the blast with assists from Arner and Perrelle. The goal was her seventh of the season.
Princeton extended its lead when Sharkey added her ninth and 10th goals of the season in the first five minutes of the second half. The first came after a feed from freshman Katie Reinprecht and the second when she lofted a rebound high into the goal.
Senior Katie Kinzer completed the scoring with her fourth goal of the season when she redirected a pass from senior Holly McGarvie in front.
Princeton outshot Harvard 24-2 and had eight corners to Harvard's none. Princeton sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer King made one save, while Kylie Stone made 14 for Harvard.
Princeton is now 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers return to action next Saturday at Cornell against the Big Red, the Ivy League's other unbeaten team.
