Peteraf Scores Twice, Women's Soccer Wins 10th over Bucknell 3-0
October 29, 2008 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Sarah Peteraf became the first Princeton women's soccer player in three years to reach double-digit goals and the Tigers reached double-digit wins for the first time in four years in a 3-0 win over Bucknell Wednesday night.
Peteraf scored in the 32nd minute after some nifty footwork allowed her to get behind the Bucknell defense for a tap-in goal after taking a pass upfield from Jen Om, who also assisted on Peteraf's second goal 23 minutes later.
In the interim, Kalie Bartholomew scored her fourth goal of the season, re-directing a Lisa Chinn corner kick that gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The three goals were the most Princeton has scored at their new Roberts Stadium home.
"After a shaky start, we got settled in and moved the ball around
fairly well and created some good chances," Princeton head coach Julie
Shackford said.
There were still more superlatives to be had, as Peteraf's 10th and 11th goals made her the first Tiger to score a double-digit number of goals since Emily Behncke '06 had 14 in 2005. Princeton moved to 10-2-2 on the season for its first 10-win campaign since 2004.
Princeton improved to 4-0 against Patriot League schools this season, defeating Colgate, American, Lehigh and Bucknell by a collective score of 10-0.
The Tigers will jump back into Ivy League play Saturday night at Cornell, standing in second place in the league with two games remaining.
