Men's Track and Field Earn Six First-Place Finishes in Season Opening Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/5/08) ? David Solvenski set a freshman and a meet record as the Princeton men's indoor track & field team opened the season hosting the New Year Invitational at Jadwin Gym.
Solvenski pole vaulted to 5.00 meters to claim the top slot. Classmate Derek Hynes placed second, with a height of 4.70 meters.
In all, Princeton finished first in six of the events it entered, including: the 60 meter dash, the mile, high jump, pole vault, shot put and weight throw.
Freshman Kashif Smith took first in the 60 meter dash, devastating his opponents with a time of 6.88. In the 300 meter dash, the Tigers took second and third place. Senior Ian Thomson clocked in second with a time of 35.47, followed by junior Brian Li-A-Ping at 35.66.
In the middle distance, sophomore Tony Salvatore placed third in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:32.93. Junior Ben White and sophomore Kyle Soloff were first and second in the mile. White was first across the line, finishing in 4:18.39 and Soloff at 4:21.40.
The Tigers were second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:22.87.
In the high jump, no one could touch junior Justin Frick, who cleared 2.15 meters for first place. Ian Fox took third with a height of 1.98 meters.
Senior Duane Hynes and sophomore Garner McCloud each finished third in their respective events, the long jump and the triple jump. Hynes had a length of 6.99 meters in the long jump, while McCloud was at 13.92
Junior Eric Plummer won the shot put with a toss of 17.71 meters. The Tigers dominated the weight throw, earning first, second and third-place finishes. Senior Alex Pessala was first at 19.58 meters, followed by sophomore Craig Pearce at 17.75 and junior Joel Karacozoff at 17.15.
The Tigers will tune-up over the next four weeks and return to action on Jan. 9 at the Metropolitan Season Opener at the Armory in New York City.
