March 07, 2008 | Women's Basketball
NEW YORK -- Meagan Cowher passed the 1,600-point milestone but it came in a 74-57 loss for the Princeton women's basketball team at Columbia Friday night.
Cowher's 25 points gave her 1,614 for her career, passing her former teammate, Becky Brown '06 (1,608) for third place on the Princeton list. Cowher's total against the Lions was her second-highest scoring output of the season behind a Nov. 24 game against Lafayette in which she scored 32.
Princeton fell to 7-21 overall and 4-8 in the Ivy League with the loss. Columbia improved to 10-17, 7-6.
Columbia turned a tight contest into a 12-point halftime lead on the strength of a 10-0 run late in the half. An Ali Prichard layup cut the Columbia lead to three at 23-20 with less than five minutes to go before the break, but the Tigers stayed off the scoreboard for almost the next four minutes while the Lions built the double-digit advantage.
The Tigers weren't able to get the deficit to single digits in the second half, though Columbia's lead never grew larger than 18 points.
Krystal Hill joined Cowher in double figures with 10 points while Michele Gage led Columbia with 24 points, including six three-pointers, five of which came in the second half. Kathleen Roehrkasse added 14 for the Lions.
Princeton outshot Columbia on the night 44.2 percent to 41.5 percent, though the Lions won the battle on the boards, 40-32, and had fewer turnovers, 18-13.
Rookie guard/forward Addie Micir returned to action for the first time since playing against Penn on Jan. 12, missing nearly two months due to injury. Micir played 11 minutes, scoring two points on her only attempt and grabbing four rebounds.
The Tigers will face Cornell at 7 p.m. Saturday in Ithaca.
