Marantz Leads Princeton to Victory at Old Nassau Run

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/13/08) ? The Princeton University men's cross country team opened up the 2008 season in style winning the 6k race of the Old Nassau Run with senior Cameron Marantz taking first place, on his home course on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The Tigers won the event with a low score of 16, way out in front of second-place team Penn which earned a score of 70. As the runners came down the chute it was all Princeton, as the first four across the tape, and 11 of the first dozen, sported the orange and black uniforms.
Marantz clocked in at 19:32.90, followed by classmate Michael Maag at 19:33.60. Finishing in third place was freshman Brian Leung, coming in a tenth of a second behind Maag. Freshman Max Kaulbach finished in fourth place with a 19:39.70.
Slots six through 12 were filled by Princeton harriers with sophomore Rob Speare leading the pack. Speare clocked in at 19:43.10, followed by senior Bryan Sharkey at 19:45.60 and sophomore Mark Amirault at 19:48.00. Freshman Sean Wilson, and the junior trio of Ben White, Jimmy Joy and Elliot Welder followed.
A total of 60 runners from 11 different universities participated in the first of three events at the Princeton Cross Country course.
Villanova finished in third place, followed by La Salle, the College of New Jersey and Columbia. A total of 60 harriers participated.
Princeton will continue its training before the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Saturday, Oct. 3. The race is set to begin at 1 p.m.
