Women's Cross Country Takes Third at Old Nassau Run

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/13/08) ? The Princeton University women's cross country team earned a third-place finish in the season opening Old Nassau Run, held on its home course on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Princeton turned in a score of 69, just nine points behind the second-place team, Villanova. Georgetown won the event with a low score of 28.
Junior Liz Costello led the Tigers, clocking in at 22:54.90 for 13th place. She was immediately followed by sophomore Sarah Cummings and senior Jolee VanLeuven, at 22:55.00 and 22:55.40, respectively.
Senior Megan Brandeland, sophomore Ashley Higginson and freshman Alex Banfich also finished in the top 20.
Winning the event was Nicole Shappert at 21:45.10, followed by West Virginia's Ahna Lewis at 21:53.10 and Kaitlyn Tallman of Villanova at 22:11.70.
A total of 145 runners from 13 different universities participated in the event at the Princeton Cross Country course.
Princeton will get a taste of Ivy League competition next weekend in a meet with Harvard and Yale in New Haven, Conn., on Saturday, Oct. 27.
