Volleyball Suffers Tight Loss To Atlantic 10 Power Temple
September 17, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
Despite a terrific effort from freshman middle Cathryn Quinn, the reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team took its first loss of the 2008 season Wednesday night. Atlantic 10 East Division favorite Temple used a 17-5 block advantage to hold off Princeton in a five-game thriller at McGonigle Hall.
Princeton, which swept three matches at the Rose Hill Classic last weekend, opened the match with a 25-23 win, but host Temple came back with wins of 25-19 and 25-22. Princeton hit .250 in the fourth set, its best total of the match, and controlled a 25-17 win, but the Owls were too much in the final set. Temple, which already owns a win this season over 2007 NCAA tournament squad Delaware, finished the match with a 15-6 win.
Quinn, in only her fourth collegiate match, had a team-best 15 kills and hit .481 in the match. Classmate Hillary Ford also posted a career night with a Princeton high 22 digs. Senior Parker Henritze recorded her third straight double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs, while current Ivy League Player of the Week Lindsey Ensign and junior Sheena Donohue both had 12 kills. Senior Bailey Robinson, who ended the 2007 regular season as the NCAA leader in assists, paced the offense with 51 assists.
