Men's Track Wins Navy Quad Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (1/10/09) ? The Princeton men's track and field team earned a first-place victory at the Navy Quad Meet on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Tigers earned 222 points, with second-place Penn trailing at 100 points. VCU, Navy and American rounded out the teams.
The Tigers earned 10 first-place finishes, and medaled in every field event and eight track events.
Princeton dominated the shot put, earning all of the top three spots. Junior Eric Plummer was first with a toss to 17.77. Freshman Patrick Park and senior Tim Lanni took second and third, respectively with throws of 15.04 and 14.84.
Sophomore Craig Pearce took first place in the weight throw, with a throw of 18.41 meters. Senior Alex Pessala placed third with a throw of 17.99 and junior Joel Karacozoff finished sixth with 15.98.
Freshman David Slovenski recorded his second straight collegiate victory in the pole vault with a new personal best and freshman record of 5.12 meters. Classmate Derek Hynes was second in the event with a height of 4.65 meters.
Princeton earned first and second in the high jump, with junior Ian Fox claiming the win with a jump of 2.04 meters. Freshman Isaac Serwanga was second at 1.99 meters. Serwanga also competed in the triple jump, where he finished in second place with a jump of 14.39 meters.
In the long jump, senior Duane Hynes took second, sophomore Dion Lehman third and junior Scott Henkelman fourth. Hynes jumped 6.91 meters, while Lehman had a length of 6.88 and Henkelman measured 6.66.
Senior Chris Vasich earned the gold in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.44. Sophomore Adam Thayer also competed, coming in fifth place at 8.62.
In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Meko McCray and freshman Ivan Charbonneau clocked in at 7.07 and 7.14, respectively. Senior Shafiq Kashmiri led the Tigers in the 200 meter, taking fourth with a time of 22.60. Junior Andrew Usoro, freshman Adam Hyndman, and Lehman also competed in the event.
Freshman Austin Holliman was victorious in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 48.58. Classmate Ricky Kearney and senior Ian Thomson finished in fourth and fifth places at 50.08 and 50.26, respectively.
Also earning a first-place win in the sprints was sophomore Mike Eddy in the 500 meter. Eddy crossed the tape at 1:04.84, while juniors Tom Zozokos and Brian Li-A-Ping were fourth and fifth at 1:06.63 and 1:06.81, respectively.
Princeton earned first place finishes in the 1000 and in the mile of the middle distance events. Sophomore Kyle Soloff won the 1000 meter with a time of 2:32.59. Fellow sophomore Tony Salvatore was third at 2:32.86 and Dennis Walsh clocked in at 2:35.14.
Freshman Trevor Van Ackeren won the mile, crossing the line at 4:14.76. Classmate Max Kaulbach was fourth at 4:18.20. Junior Ben White and freshman Sean Wilson also ran, posting times of 4:19.03 and 4:24.51, respectively.
In the 800 meters, junior Jordan Hill earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:56.22. Freshman Nick Thomas and senior Mike Kowal were fourth and fifth-place finishers at 1:58.07 and 1:58.39, respectively.
Sophomore Zach Pedmore paced the Tigers in the 3000 meters, taking fourth with a time of 8:40.33. Senior Peter Bartlett and freshman Peter Maag also competed in the event.
In the relays, Princeton earned a gold and silver medal. The Tigers won the 4x400 with a time of 3:18.55, beating out the second-place team from Penn by over five seconds. The team went on to earn a second-place finish in the distance medley relay, clocking in at 10:20.20.
Princeton hopes to repeat its success at Navy on Jan. 24, when it returns to Annapolis for the Navy Invitational.
