Hynes Posts Nation's Best Score in the Heptathlon

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/28/09) - Senior Duane Hynes of the Princeton track and field team earned the No. 1 score in the nation in the heptathlon in a mini heptathlon held over two days at Jadwin Gym.
Hynes recorded a score of 5,639 and posted personal bests in three events. Hynes reached 6' 8.25" in the high jump, ran the 1,000 in 2:41.8 and finished the 60 meter hurdles in 8.44.
Max Westerman of Penn finished second with a score of 5,043 and Tim Matlack from Rutgers was third with a score of 4, 884. Princeton's Steve Slovenski finished the event with a 4,572, while Rutger's Mike Baird did not finish.
The U.S Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association ranked Hynes, No. 9 in the country in the event in the preseason rankings. His score today meets NCAA provisional qualifying standards, just missing the automatic mark by 11 points.Hynes and the rest of the Tigers will be back in action on this weekend at the Penn State National Open.
