CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (10/24/09) -- Senior Kaitlin Donovan scored her first three goals of the season to help the fourth-ranked Princeton field hockey team to a 9-0 win at Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Sophomores Alyssa Pyros and Katie Reinprecht also scored twice in the win for Princeton.
The Tigers took control of play from the start, outshooting Harvard 33-1 on its way to its 12th win of the season and its fifth in the Ivy League. The Tigers built a four-goal lead in the game's first 15 minutes as Donovan and Pyros each converted twice in the span.
Donovan opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a shot from the top of the circle following a pass from senior Kaitlyn Perrelle. Pyros provided the next two goals unassisted before Donovan scored two more in the second half. In the 16th minute, she tipped in a Katie Reinprecht shot and in the final minute of the half she scored again off a feed from Perrelle.
Princeton would add four more goals in the second half. Freshman Julia Reinprecht scored in the first minute of the half after dribbling into the circle from the left side of the field. Katie Reinprecht netted the next two Tiger goals, scoring off a direct corner with assists from freshman Michelle Cesan and junior Alexandra Douwes in the 61st minute and tipping in senior Christina Bortz's pass in the 65th minute. Bortz added an unassisted tally in the 68th minute to complete the scoring.
Senior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray earned the win as she and junior Jennifer King each played a half. Harvard's Cynthia Tassopoulus made 15 saves in the loss.
Princeton now sits a perfect 5-0 in the Ivy League standings and Princeton can clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title with a Yale loss tomorrow at Penn or a win in its next game on Friday night against Cornell at home.
