DiCesare, Landry Lead Women's Hockey in 7-2 Win at Vermont

BURLINGTON,Vt. (10/24/09) -- Sophomores Danielle DiCesare and Heather Landry each scored two goals and added two assists to help the Princeton women's hockey team to a 7-2 win at Vermont on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Princeton rebounded from a 4-3 loss to Vermont on Friday night to split its season-opening series and move to 1-1 this season. The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the opening period but DiCesare scored on the power play late in the first to draw the Tigers even after a period. Princeton then scored three unanswered goals in the second period to pull ahead.
Nine Tigers tallied points in the win and six had more than one. DiCesare and Landry both had two goals and two assists, while freshman Kelly Cooke scored twice and added one helper. Senior captain Stephanie Denino, sophomore Paula Romanchuk and freshman Corey Stearns all added two assists.
After outshooting Vermont 16-3 in the first period, the Tigers edged Vermont 9-3 in shots in the second period and pulled ahead with three goals in the stanza. Landry made the score 2-1 at 5:13 of the second period and Cooke scored the eventual game winner at 9:36. DiCesare added her second goal of the game and third this season at 14:04 of the period on the power play.
After Vermont scored late in the second period to move within a goal entering the third, the Tigers scored three more goals in the final stanza to win 7-2. Landry netted a goal on the power play at 3:35 and junior Sasha Sherry scored on the power play less than two minutes later at 5:01. Cooke scored the final goal with 3:21 left in the third period.
Sophomore Rachel Weber earned her first collegiate win by making seven saves on nine shots. Kristen Olychuck made 28 saves in the Vermont goal. Princeton was 4 for 9 on the power play and killed two of its four penalties.
Princeton opens the ECAC Hockey season next weekend when it hosts Rensselaer and Union at Hobey Baker Rink.
