Men's X-Country Claims Second at Heps, One Point Shy of Title

BRONX, N.Y. (10/30/09) - The 2009 Ivy League Men's Heptagonal Championship came down to one point. Unfortunately, that one point did not fall in Princeton's favor as the team placed second to Columbia, 61-60. Although the team was disappointed to not retain the title, head coach Steve Dolan was impressed with his team remarking that its the best they've run as team this season.
Sophomore Brian Leung medaled, taking third with a time of 25:28.0. Classmate Donn Cabral finished his first Heps with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 25:37.9. Junior captain Rob Speare was 11th at 25:46.5, followed by junior Mark Amirault at 25:59.7 for 18th place. Sophomore Sean Wilson rounded ou the top five with a 23rd place finish with a time of 26:11.8. Sophomores Trevor Van Ackeren abd Joe Stilin both finished in the top 50.
Harvard's Dan Chenoweth won the individual title at 25:09.2, followed by Christian Escareno of Brown in second place. Dartmouth and Cornell tied for third place, followed by Brown, Harvard, Yale and Penn.
The Tigers will next aim for a top-two finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Princess Anne, Md. The first two teams will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, along with the top 10 individuals.
