Princeton Places Nine on Field Hockey All-Region Team

PRINCETON (11/19/09) -- The Princeton field hockey team placed seven players on the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region team it was announced on Thursday. Princeton had four first-team and three second-team selections for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Sophomores Katie Reinprecht, the Ivy League Player of the Year, and Kathleen Sharkey, a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection were each first-team all-region choices for the second times in their careers. They were joined by freshmen Michelle Cesan and Julia Reinprecht on the first team. Both were also first-team All-Ivies and Julia Reinprecht was the Ivy Rookie of the Year.
Senior Kaitlyn Perrelle, junior goalkeeper Jennifer King and sophomore Alyssa Pyros received second-team all-region honors, all for the first times in their careers. Perrelle was a first-team All-Ivy selection and King and Pyros were each named to the Ivy League's second team.
Players selected for the first team are eligible for the 2009 All-America teams, which will be announced on Monday, November 23.
Princeton nearly doubled its four all-region selections from last season. The Tigers tied Maryland, their opponent on Friday in the NCAA semifinals, with eight all-region selections. Only North Carolina, with nine all-region choices, had more.
