Pessala Continues to Improve at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/22/09) ? Senior Alex Pessala continues to move up the NCAA provisional qualifying list as he recorded a personal best throw of 20.99 meters in the weight throw at the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Jadwin Gym.
In the shot put, Princeton went 1-2-3-4-5 with junior Eric Plummer leading the way with a throw of 17.07. Sophomore George Abyad and junior Joel Karacozoff were second and third at 16.20 and 15.88. Freshman Patrick Park and senior Tim Lanni followed at 15.79 and 14.53.
Freshman Isaac Serwanga and sophomore Garner McCloud were the only competitors in the triple jump. Serwanga leaped to 14.37 meters (47' 1.75”) while McCloud reached 13.80 (45' 3.50”). Serwanga went on to finished third in the high jump with a jump of 1.98 meters (6' 6”) while junior Ian Fox won the event reaching 2.03 meters (6' 8”).
The Tigers took places 1-4 in the pole vault with freshman David Slovenski leading the pack with a vault of 4.90 meters (16' 0.75”) and junior Chad Faulker following with the same height. Freshman Derek Hynes and senior Steve Slovenski were third and fourth with 4.80 and 4.50 vaults.
Sophomore Adam Thayer was second in the 60-meter hurdles making his way to the finish line in 8.49, while freshman Adam Hyndman won the 200 meter dash at 22.97.
Princeton earned all three medals in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Austin Hollimon took first at 48.58, followed by juniors Brian Li-A-Ping and Tom Zozokos at 50.11 and 51.09, respectively.
It was a tight race in the 800-meter dash, but it was all Orange and Black at the finish line with sophomore Tony Salvatore winning with a time of 1:58.14. Junior Jordan Hill and sophomore Reagan Lynch were right behind at 1:58.29 and 1:58.74.
The Tigers took all three medals in the mile run with senior Peter Bartlett winning gold as he finished his laps in 4:21.72. Freshmen Sean Wilson and Peter Maag were second and third at 4:21.80 and 4:30.88.
Princeton will compete for the Ivy League Championship next weekend at Harvard.
