Women's XC Takes Seven of the Top 10 to Win the Cappy Anderson Invite

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (9/19/09) - The team that stays together, wins together. The Princeton women's cross country finished the Cappy Anderson Invitational together and did it with a win. The Tigers earned 20 points, taking places 2-3-4-5-6-7-8, for the victory.
The first seven Tigers all finished within 48 seconds of each other and all within the 17:48 time frame.
Finishing in succession was senior Reilly Kiernan at 17:48.51, senior Alexa Glencer at 17:48.53, senior Liz Costello at 17:48.55, junior Sarah Cummings at 17:48.79, sophomore Alex Banfich at 17:48.55, junior Ashley Higginson at 17:48.98 and Liz Deir at 17:48.99.
Freshmen Mel Newbery and Alexis Mikaelian came in 13th and 14th with times of 17:57.04 and 17:59.20. Two other Tigers finished in the top 25 out of the 73 total runners.
The Tigers will return to this same course on Saturday, Nov. 14 when it races the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Princeton will take a week off to prepare for its biggest races thus far in the season, the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2. The race will feature some of the best squads in the country. In addition, Princeton will also send runners to the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University the same day.
