Two Tigers Reach NCAA Provisional Standards at Relays

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/24/10) - The Princeton track and field teams resumed action on Saturday, Jan. 23 at a home meet, the Princeton Relays. Twelve teams came to Jadwin Gym to compete in the non-scoring meet.
The Tigers won seven events at the meet, including: long jump, pole vault, high jump, mile, 60-meter dash, 800 and 1000-meter runs.
Highlighting the Relays were two Tigers meeting the NCAA Provisional Standards in their respective events.
Junior Dion Lehman reached NCAA provisional standards in the long jump. Lehman reached 7.38 meters (24-02.50), and beat out the next finisher by 0.33 meters. Senior Justin Frick reached NCAA provisional standards in the high jump with a jump of 2.15 meters (7-00.50).
Backing up Lehman and Frick, were seniors Scott Henkelman and Ian Fox. Fox cleared 2.11 meters (6-11.00) in the high jump to take second place, while Henkelman was third in the long jump, reaching 7.01 meters (23-00.00).
The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the pole vault with sophomore David Slovenski winning the event at 5.00 (16-04.75). Senior Chad Faulkner was second at 4.80 (15-09.00) and sophomore Derek Hynes was third at 4.65 (15-03.00),
Three of the six qualifiers for the finals of the 60-meter dash were Tigers. Sophomore Ivan Charbonneau won the event at 6.94, beating the second-place runner by 0.07 seconds. Sophomore Kashif Smith was third at 7.03 with freshman Akil Sharp just 0.01 of a second behind for fourth place.
Sophomore Patrick Park took second in shot put, throwing to16.47 meters (54-00.50).
The following events were all run in sections.
Junior Kyle Soloff had the best time in the mile out of 33 runners, finishing in 4:09.01.Classmate Mark Amirault was second at 4:11.91.
Sophomores Rickey Kearney and Nilan Schnure both finished third in their respective events. Kearney ran a 51.35 in the 400, while Schnure finished the 500 in 1:08.14.
Junior Mike Eddy clocked in at 34.74 in the 300 for second place.
Freshman Russell Dinkins was first in the 800 at 1:53.37 and junior Hudson Andrews was third at 1:58.14.
The Tigers captured the top four places in 1000-meter dash. Freshman Nathan Mathabane was first 2:26.49, followed by freshman Peter Callahan second at 2:27.12. Sophomore Trevor Van Ackeren finished in 2:28.54 and sophomore Donn Cabral clocked in at 2:28.83.
Princeton will compete at the Collegiate Duals at The Amory in New York City next weekend.
