PRINCETON (10/16/10) - Kathleen Sharkey and Rachel Neufeld each scored twice to lead the fourth-ranked Princeton field hockey team past Brown 7-1 on Saturday afternoon in an Ivy League game at Class of '52 Stadium.
Princeton raced out to a 6-0 lead in the game before Brown scored its lone goal late in the first half. Princeton dominated all facets of the game, outshooting Brown 36-1 and outcornering the Bears 13-1.
Sharkey put Princeton ahead with her first goal of the game in the fifth minute putting in a rebound and Katie Reinprecht made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when she took a Sharkey pass and shot over the diving Brown goalkeeper for her 10th of the season.
Neufeld scored three minutes later to make the score 3-0 and open a stretch where the Tigers would score four goals over a 10-minute span. Michelle Cesan scored her ninth on a rebound, Carrie Diamond netted her first on the backhand and Neufeld would net her second of the game and fourth of the year on a shot that was initially saved but found its way over the goal line.
Princeton would add a final goal in the second half from Sharkey on a direct corner. It was nation's best 22nd goal of the season and was assisted by Alexandra Douwes and Julia Reinprecht.
Lauren Kessler made 13 saves in the Brown goal, while Christina Maida and Jennifer King each played a half for Princeton.
The Tigers are now 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League. Princeton returns to action Sunday afternoon at fifth-ranked Connecticut.
