Cross Country Sends Contingents to IC4A/ECAC Championships

BRONX, N.Y. (11/20/10) - While Princeton's top runners are in Terre Haute, Ind., preparing for the NCAA Championships, its younger runners were getting some championship experience under their own belts.
The teams sent 11 runners to compete at the IC4A and ECAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Saturday, Nov. 20.
The men's team sent seven runners to run the five-mile course. Sophomore Michael Franklin was the top finisher clocking in at 25:31.8. Freshman Chris Bendtsen finished right behind him at 25:32.2.
Classmate Garrett Rowe was the third Tiger across the line at 26:28.7, followed by freshman Michael Williams at 26:46.1 and sophomore Nathan Mathabane at 26:46.5. Freshman William Brown and sophomore Christian Birky both clocked in in under 27 minutes as well.
As a team Princeton finished 12th out of 19 teams with 318 points. Duke won as a team with 44 points; while Rider's Christian Gonzalez took the top individual honor finishing the five mile in 24:52.7 out of 162 runners.
The Princeton women sent four harriers to run in the women's 5k. Freshman Clare Gallagher led the Tigers with a 35th-place finish of 18:39.8. Sophomore Lauren Zumbach covered the course in 18:43.7 for 38th out of 113 total runners. Sophomore Abby Hewitt clocked in at 19:58 flat and freshman Caroline Bazinet recorded a time of 20:08.3.
James Madison won as a team and had the top individual runner Alison Parris, who finished at 17:27.4.
Princeton will compete at the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
