Plummer Posts Double Wins at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/21/10) - The Princeton men's track and field team won six events at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 20. The non-scoring meet was held at both Princeton and The Lawrenceville School.
Senior Eric Plummer posted dual victories in the throws. He won the weight throw reaching 17.32 meters, his longest throw of the season. He then went on to win the shot put throwing to 16.78 meters.
Senior Joel Karacozoff had repeat second-place performances in the weight and shot. He throw the weight to 16.52 and the shot to 16.30.
Sophomore Austin Hollimon won the triple jump reaching 14.07 meters in just his first try in the triple this season. His jump was nearly one meter further than the second-place jumper Kendall Poole from Delaware Track Club, who reached 13.17 meters.
Senior Ian Fox won the high jump clearing 2.10 meters, 0.10 meters higher than Kutztown's Sean Gentry.
In the 200, freshman Sebastian Steffen earned a victory with a time of 22.79, while sophomore Rickey Kearney was second at 22.83.
The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the 1000. Junior Tony Salvatore recorded a personal best of 2:29.00 to win the event. His previous best stood at 2:30.89. Senior Jeff Carbonella and junior Hudson Andrews clocked in at 2:30.66 and 2:30.68, respectively.
Earning second-place finishes were freshman James Webb in the mile and sophomore Derek Hynes in the pole vault. Webb just missed first-place to Penn's Michael Cunningham as Webb came in at 4:17.37 to Cunningham's 4:17.09. Hynes cleared 4.75 meters in the pole vault, his best clearance of the season after competing in the event six times.
Four Tigers earned third place in their respective events. Senior Scott Henkelman took third in the long jump reaching 6.87 meters, while sophomore Tyler King finished the 800 in 1:56.07.
Princeton competed in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles for the first time this season and took third in both events. Sophomore Ivan Charbonneau recorded a time of 6.52 in the 55, and junior Adam Thayer finished the hurdles in 7.84.
Princeton will compete at the Ivy League Heptagonal next weekend Feb. 26-27 at Dartmouth.
