Higginson Takes Third in Steeplechase; Cabral Scores in 5000

EUGENE, Ore. (6/12/10) - Junior Ashley Higginson finished in third place in the womens's championship steeplechase on Saturday, June 12 at the 2010 NCAA Track & Field Championships on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Higginson finished in 9:52.73 shaving 4.77 seconds off her personal best and rewriting the Princeton record book once again.
Penn State's Bridget Franek ran most of the race solo and was 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack and clocked in at 9:38.86 outdoing her season best and NCAA best of 9:48.28. Colorado's Emma Coburn and Higginson raced to the finish with Coburn edging Higginson for second place at 9:51.86.
Sophomore Donn Cabral the runner-up in the men's steeplechase finished sixth in the men's 5000-meter run at 13:53.33, a little less than five seconds better than his previous best of 13:58.24. Junior Kyle Soloff clocked in at 14:15.54 to take 19th in the 24-man final. Michael Maag, a 2009 Princeton alum who is using his final year of outdoor track eligibility at Oregon, finished 16th at 14:07.98.
The Princeton men finished with 11 team points to tie for 21st out of 72 teams, while the women earned seven points to take 33rd out of 68 teams. Texas A&M men and women won the team titles. On the men's side the Aggies finished with 55 points, followed by Florida with 49 and Oregon with 45. On the women's side Texas A&M recorded 72 points, followed by Oregon with 52 and Florida with 36.
