Princeton Puts on a Show at USA Track & Field Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. (6/28/10) - Princeton men's track & field athletes put on a show at the USA Track & Field Championships this past week in Des Moines, Iowa.
Freshman Peter Callahan won the men's junior 1500-meter run and qualified for the World Junior Championships. Callahan was first in the preliminaries with a time of 3:50.74 to move on to the finals with 11 other competitors. In the finals, Callahan recorded a new personal best with a time of 3:46.42 to win the event. He surpassed the World Junior qualifying time of 3:48. Callahan was one of seven collegiate runners in the finals, with the next best time being Elias Gedyon of Quiet Fire TC at 3:47.65.
Sophomore Donn Cabral finished seventh in the men's senior steeplechase, as the only collegiate runner in the group. He was sixth in the prelims at 8:43.75 to become one of 14 to qualify for the finals. He ran an 8:37.35, his second best time of his career, to take seventh in the finals.
Freshman Conor McCullough, who is not currently enrolled at Princeton, won the men's junior hammer throw setting an American Junior record. McCullough reached 78.28 meters (256-10) on just his second try. His mark qualfies him for the World Junior Championship, a competition he placed second in in 2008. The next competitor in the event was 7.99 meters (26-3) behind McCullough's mark.
Tora Harris '02 was second in the men's senior high jump. The former NCAA National Champion, was one of two jumpers to clear 2.26 meters (7-05.00). Based on attempts, Harris took second.The World Junior Championships will be held July 19-25 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
