Princeton Field Hockey Fourth in Kookaburra/NFHCA Preseason Poll

PRINCETON (8/24/10) -- The Princeton field hockey team will enter the 2010 season ranked fourth in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll. Princeton was an NCAA semifinalist last year and ranked fourth in the final poll of 2009.
Princeton received seven first-place votes in the poll and ranked fourth overall with 943. points. The four teams that played in last season's final four make up the top four spots in the poll with defending National Champion North Carolina taking the top spot ahead of Maryland and Virginia. Princeton had the third highest amount of first-place votes, ranking ahead of third-ranked Virginia.
Princeton has seven games against teams ranked in the Preseason Top 20 and four more against teams receiving votes in the poll. The slate includes three games with top-five teams. During the season Princeton will host second-ranked Maryland, eighth-ranked Syracuse, 13th-ranked Louisville and 15th-ranked American, and visit third-ranked Virginia, fifth-ranked Connecticut and 18th-ranked Penn State. The teams receiving votes that Princeton will face are Richmond, Dartmouth, Penn and Virginia Commonwealth.
Before the season officially begins the Tigers will scrimmage 11th-ranked Drexel tonight (Aug. 24) at 6 p.m., at Class of '52 Stadium.
The Tigers enter the 2010 campaign looking for their sixth-straight Ivy title, its 19th overall and its 16th in the last 17 years. The Tigers open the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 5 at home against Bucknell.
