Women's XC Takes Second at Spiked Shoe Invite

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (9/11/10) - The Princeton women's cross country team took second place at the 2010 Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 11, in the Tigers' first meet of the season.
Princeton's top returning trio finished in the top 10 and the freshmen impressed in the race of 179 runners.
Senior Sarah Cummings and junior Alex Banfich finished the race together at 21:03.5 and 21:03.8 to take third and fourth. Senior Ashley Higginson clocked in at 21:22.3 for ninth place. Sophomore Mel Newbery and freshman Marisa Cummings made up the final two of the Princeton's top five. Newbery ran a 21:43.2 to take 13th while Cummings was 16th at 21:43.2.
Georgetown earned the win having the top two runners, Emily Jones and Renee Tomlin, to secure 28 points. Princeton earned 45 points for second place followed by Georgetown with 59. La Salle and Navy finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Yale will host the HYP meet in two weeks on Friday, Sept. 24.
