Cummings Leads Women's XC to HYP Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (9/24/10) - Senior Sarah Cummings led the Princeton women's cross country team to victory at the HYP meet in New Haven, Conn., on Friday, Sept. 24. Cummings finished in 17:14.20, nearly six seconds faster than the second-place harrier out of Harvard.
Junior Alex Banfich took third at 17:34.52 and senior Ashley Higginson ran in at 17:43.29, making up three of just four runners than finished the 5k in under 18 minutes.
Joining Cummings, Banfich and Higginson as Princeton's top-five scorers were sophomores Alexis Mikaelian and Abby Levine. Mikaelian finished in sicth place at 18:12.64 and Levene took eighth finishing in 18:14.81.
Princeton had an additional five runners place in the top 20. Freshmen Theresa Devine and Marisa Cummings came in 11th and 12th respectively with times of 18:28.48 and 18:30.19. Freshman Katie Skinner crossed the line at 18:57.84 for 15th and sophomore Greta Feldman was two places behind with a time of 18:59.87, followed by sophomore Laura Zumbach at 19:02.36 for 18th.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 22 with an average time of 17:47.90. Harvard was second with 40 points averaging 18:12.17, and Yale was third with 68 points averaging a time of 18:45.69.
This weekend provided the Tigers with a taste of the upcoming Heptagonals, but next weekend the team will see where it stands on a national level when it competes at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1. The second group will run at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh the same day.
