Men's Track & Field Wins New York Road Runners

NEW YORK (1/29/11) - The Princeton men's track & field team won the New York Road Runners Saturday Night at The Armory II meet on Saturday, Jan. 29. The team scored 149 points to edge Cornell with 144.33 points. Connecticut was third with 92.33 points. This is the second straight year the Tigers have won the meet.
Junior Austin Hollimon was named the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet after he won the 400 in a time of 46.47, a Princeton record and the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division I. His time is also the fifth fastest in the world. Hollimon finished a solid two seconds ahead of the second-place sprinter in the event and helped set another Princeton record as a member of the 4x4 relay.
The 4x400 relay of Tom Hopkins, Russell Dinkins, Mike Eddy and Hollimon posted a victory at 3:11.63, beating out Villanova's relay at 3:14.88. The time is a Princeton record. The team is posed in a photo above with assistant coach Marc Anderson.
Dinkins followed up in the 500 with a win of his own breaking the tape at 1:02.09. Eddy was second in the event at 1:02.96, as the pair were the only two to finish in under 1:03.
In the shorter sprints, junior Kashif Smith was sixth in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 6.95, and was eighth in the 200 at 22.45. Sophomore Sebastian Steffen earned points in the 200 as well clocking in at 22.32 for fifth place. Sophomore Richard Sheldon was the runner up in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 8.12. Sheldon went on to take sixth in the high jump, clearing 2.00 meters. Freshman Omar Jarrett would earn the same mark in the event.
Princeton picked up nine points in the mile with senior Kyle Soloff earning the team's best time, a mark of 4:07.14 for fourth place. Junior Donn Cabral was sixth at 4:07.33 and classmate Joe Stilin was eighth at 4:09.48.
Seventeen of the Tigers' points came in the 3k, as runners finished 3-4-5-7. Senior Mark Amirault led the pack with a third-place finish and time of 8:09.27. Junior Brian Leung was fourth at 8:11.56, followed by freshman Chris Bendtsen at 8:18.15. Freshman Alejandro Arroyo Yamin was seventh in the 3000 with a time of 8:18.94.
Junior David Slovenksi captured a win in the pole vault, as he launched to 5.10 meters. Classmate Derek Hynes was fifth at 4.65 meters.
Senior Dion Lehman won again in the long jump, reaching 7.31 meters on his final jump. His final mark was over a foot further than the second-place competitor.
Freshman Damon McLean won the triple jump as the only jumper to reach over 50 feet, as he landed at 15.42 meters.
Senior Craig Pearce earned a victory in the weight throw, throwing to 18.69 meters, the only thrower to go over 18 meters. Classmate George Abyad took third place in the shot put with a throw of 16.76 meters. Junior Patrick Park would throw to 15.70 meters for fifth place.
In the 4x800, Jason Dzuranin, Michael Palmisano, Michael Williams and Garrett Rowe finished fourth with a time of 7:54.92.
The squad will head to the Penn State Open and The Great Meet in Geneva, Ohio next weekend Feb. 4-5.
