Women's Track & Field Wins Quad Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/14/12) - Sophomore Imani Oliver broke a 12-year Princeton record in the triple jump to help lead the Princeton women's track & field team to a win at the Princeton Quad Meet at Jadwin Gym on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Oliver landed at 12.44 meters (40-9.75), besting the previous record of 12.42 (40-9) set by Nicole Springer in 1990.
Senior Eileen Moran was a double winner, finishing first in both the 60- and the 200-meter dash.
The Tigers would take first and second in four track events helping to load up the score with points. Senior Alex Banfich won the mile, with freshman Jackie Nicholas second; freshman Cecilia Barowski won the 500 with sophomore Kacie O'Neil second; junior Greta Feldman won the 800 with freshman Andrea Keklak taking second; and junior Mel Newbery won the 3000 with sophomore Theresa Devine second.
Sophomore Kristin Smoot won the 1000, junior Tory Worthen was first in the pole vault and sophomore Theresa Kennedy finished in a first-place tie in the high jump. The 4x400 relay was also victorious.
Moran won the 60-meter dash at 7.71. Juniors Erin Guty and Abidemi Adenikinju also made the finals. Later in the day, Moran ran a 25.18 to win the 300. Freshman Emily Easton and sophomore Lily Miller were fourth and fifth in the event.
Banfich won the mile with a time of 4:53.35, the only runner to finish the race in less than five minutes. Nicholas followed with a time of 5:04.91.
In the 500, Barowski ran in at 1:14.53 with O'Neil clocking in with a new personal record of 1:16.85. Sophomore Carrie Vuong also ran a PR to finish third at 1:16.92.
Feldman won 800 at 2:13.37 just edging out Keklak in second-place at 2:13.60. Freshman Kim Mackay was third at 2:17.36.
It was a tight race between two Tigers in the 1000. Smoot clocked in at 2:51.11 and Mikaelian 2:51.16, both PRs for the pair. Sophomore Clare Gallagher took third at 2:55.92.
Princeton went 1-2-3-4 in the 3000. Newbery and Devine each earned PRs finishing first and second at 9:40.95 and 9:50.88, respectively. Junior Abby Levene was third at 10:01.34 and sophomore Marissa Cummings was fourth at 10:05.76.
The 4x4 of Joie Hand, Jasmine Blocker, Vuong and Barowski took top honors in the race with a time of 3:53.13. Princeton's B team placed third, as the Tigers sandwich St. John's A team.
Freshman Nonny Okwelogu placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.14 meters (39-10). Sophomore Chelsea Cioffi was fifth at 10.99 (36-00.75) and would place fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.75 (45-1.50).
Guty was the runner-up in the long jump reaching 5.43 (17-9.75).
Kennedy cleared 1.65 (5-5) in the high jump to finish in a first-place tie. Sophomore Beth McKenna tied for fourth jumping to 1.50 (4-11).
The Tigers had the top four pole vault, led by the champion Worthen. Worthen cleared 3.86 (12-8) with classmate Lauren Tauscher following in second place at 3.66 (12). Seniors Lydia Arias and Bianca Reo finished in a third-place tie as both reached 3.35 (10-11.75).
Freshman Teju Adewole was third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.16. McKenna and sophomore Samantha Anderson also qualified for the finals.
Rounding out the scorers was Hand placing third in the 400 at 58.12.
Princeton won the quad meet with 195 points, 76 more than second-place St. John's. Rutgers was third with 108 followed by St. Joseph's with 100.
Princeton will compete at The Armory next Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Saturday Night at The Armory II race.
