Reinprecht and Sharkey Help Guide U.S. Field Hockey to World Cup Berth
September 30, 2013 | Field Hockey
Katie Reinprecht '13 and Kathleen Sharkey '13, members of the U.S. Field Hockey National Team, have helped Team USA earn a berth to the 2014 World Cup following a successful silver medal finish at the Pan American Cup in Mendoza, Argentina.
The Tiger duo were integral parts in Team USA going 3-0 in group play and earning a place in the semifinals versus Canada on Sept. 26.
Reinprecht scored the game-winner and Sharkey added an insurance goal in the American's dominating 4-0 win over the Canadians to advance to the finals.
Two days later, the U.S. squared off with rival and host-Argentina, but ultimately came away with a 1-0 defeat.
“We have an ongoing rivalry with Argentina within international competition,” said Reinprecht. “The match wasn't any less intense than what we expected.”
Adding to the Tiger representation at the Pan Ams was former Princeton assistant and current U.S. assistant coach Nate Franks '07.
With the second-place finish, Team USA earned a spot in the World Cup hosted next summer in The Hague, Netherlands.
